ICTM Regionals

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Woo! Tied for first place Senior Written (with a 38)! I’ve continued my streak of placing in the Written at every Regional and State tournament! It’s a sevenpeat! One more to go!

New Trier didn’t do too well, but we got first in two of my events (Senior Written and Calculator Team). I totally botched the orals, but, oh well. And we won the Candy Bar Contest. (That’s all that matters anyway, right?)

Military maneuvers are rather opaque at times

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

As Israeli defense minister Amir Peretz has recently discovered, it is rather difficult to see through binocular lens caps.

“Mr Peretz looked through the capped binoculars three times, nodding as Gen Ashkenazi explained what was in view…But one Israeli paper pointed out that he is not the first prominent official to make this mistake…US President George W Bush and former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon have both done the same thing.”

Aegis Applications

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

I’m pretty busy lately. Oh well.

Aegis applications are out! Yay! We’ve already received three applications! Yay again! Except that already we’ve found it difficult to come to decisions about applicants. Three people often have different reactions to questions, even when they share the same basic principles.

Also, ICTM Regionals are on Saturday. I hope we do well!

Masonic Regionals

We’re going to Masonic State! We won moneys and have the opportunity to win more!

Aegis’s Season is Over!

We’re done with all our packets! Woohoo! Now we just have to clean up, plan, regroup, reform, send out checks…

Scholastic Bowl Season

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Well, it sounds like we’re getting into the thick of things for Scholastic Bowl. The seeding meeting was last night, and we’re second in our subsectional after Maine South. (I’m impressed — the entire seeding was reasonable! Often it’s iffy because some of the coaches don’t know what’s going on…) Nick and I are both All-Sectional, and eligible for All-State. (For the record, Nick: I was top vote, Nick was fourth.)

So the State Series is starting in March; Fenwick and Team Illinois tryouts are coming up this weekend. Oh yeah, and Masonic’s coming up too. Busy, busy, busy.

Over the weekend, we got second place at WUHSAC, which had a much better t-shirt than last year’s. It reads “I (brain) WUHSAC” on the front. Yes, with a drawing of a brain. Nick and I both placed individually, him fourth and myself eighth.

The long drive there and back was productive, too. After we sung “Since U Been Gone” with the radio, Sido had the brainstorm that our Scholastic Bowl team should start an indie rock band with unique covers of others’ songs. We decided on calling it “Young’s Modulus.”

Forecast: A Wintry Spring?

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Our good friend Punxsutawney Phil says spring is coming, a forecast he hasn’t made since 1999, apparently. Too bad it’s cold out and his prediction doesn’t actually matter… :(

WUHSAC Scholastic Bowl tournament tomorrow at St. Louis, woo!
