Say it ain’t so!

School can’t be this close to starting! I have so much else to do!

Ah, who am I kidding. During the school year I pursue all of my own projects anyway.

Oh yeah, on that note, I pulled out a calendar and counted all the Mondays we have school, freaked out, and promptly changed Monday Mathematics to biweekly instead of weekly–that is, every two weeks, not twice a week, silly. I still need lots of topic ideas, so send ‘em my way.

So biweekly does mean every two weeks? I’m never sure, but I guess that makes sense. So what’s the word for twice a week? With years there’s biennial (every two years) and biannual (twice a year), which I only recently learned the difference between, and which is confusing… It’s one of those little language things that I’ve always mildly wondered about, but never remember to look up.

Biweekly refers to both, unfortunately. I think it tends to refer to every-two-weeks, though. I suppose “fortnightly” would be less ambiguous but it sounds rather lofty.

“Semiweekly” is sometimes used for “twice every week” but it has the feeling of an ugly hack. And since I hate dumb contrived usages like the singular gender-neutral “themself,” I can’t really bring myself to use “semiweekly.” I’d just say twice-weekly.
